This is the first batch, in the coming 14 days, we will have 2 more batches of 90 000 +

This is the latest update on the site:

The situation here is improving daily. Telecommunication and electricity is breaking down frequently. It is difficult to find a internet connection. International and local aid are busy distributing tents, blankets, medical aid, food and water, but more is needed. There are currently 174 aid organisations working here. We are the only organisation here that has a trauma recovery program. Our team in the Padang disaster area is extremely busy with giving trauma trainings and sessions to the traumatized victims.


Our target for First Response phase, is to provide a trauma counselling for as many children as possible in the disaster area. We have a small team, limited resources, and have a time limit of three weeks to accomplish this.


We have started in the most devastated district Agam. The disaster area is large and densely populated. To be able to reach all the children in this district, in collaboration with the Department of Education District Agam, we have devised and are executing a different strategy.


In the past few days we have trained 64 education counsellors from the Agam Department for Education. This Training for Trainers enables them to teach the TREST Trauma Counselling program to others.

These education counsellors are currently training 6504 teachers.

On Monday, 12 October, starting at 8 am all these school teachers will train 84.670 children.

Every school child in Agam district, from elementary school to senior high school, will receive the TREST Trauma Counselling program.


During this program the children will learn an exercise that gives them a deep sense of calmness, it releases stress, gives grounding, re-connects them with their body and stops excessive thinking.

The children will then learn and use EFT, which enables them to eliminate the intensity of any unpleasant emotion or feeling.

Finally the children will learn a technique for Emotional Emergency situations like extreme fear or panic attacks, uncontrollable fits of crying, hyperventilation and shock.

The children will also receive a brochure describing the techniques, so they use them to teach their family and friends these techniques.


The most important effect of this operation will occur during the training, while learning the EFT technique, the intensity of the most important unresolved emotions will be reduced to a level at which the participants are no longer feel overwhelmed:

fear of a new earthquake

fear of a tsunami

feeling unsafe

too afraid to sleep

feeling alone

sadness about friends and family who died in the earthquake

fear of dying


This is an incredibly large operation. I am deeply touched by all government officials involved, they all underwrite the need of taking care of these traumatized children. And amidst the chaos and the devastation in this area, with very limited resources and with an incredible effort, together with TREST they have managed to execute this program in a short time.


After the Agam district, there are 3 more districts in the disaster area, where we would like to execute this program.
