THOUGHTS  ON  SURROGATE  TAPPING FOR OTHERS

 

Surrogate tapping is when we tap upon ourselves on behalf of and for the benefit of someone else.  We hold a space of grace, as some have said, when we lend ourselves to others through Surrogate Tapping.  We are all connected to one another by energy and to my mind, by Spirit.

 

I have no worries about tapping for others in this manner, and without their permission, IF the principles below are kept foremost in your mind.  EFT founder Gary Craig used to say when asked about this that people who wish us Harm don’t ask our permission before doing so, so how could wishing them Good possibly hurt them?  I wholeheartedly concur, and only ask ‘permission’ in the sense that I ask myself if it’s appropriate and the time is right to do so.

 

This document is not a “How-To”, but rather a reminder of what are prudent and safe procedures to keep in mind when Surrogate Tapping.

 

In a phrase, it’s all about being ‘Mindful.’

 

1.  Just like the safety videos on the airplanes say, ‘put on your oxygen mask first.’

 

Treating yourself first ensures a couple of things –

 

* Surrogate Tapping for others is NOT about traumatizing yourself in the process.

 

* You don’t want to send confusing or negative thoughts to the very people you’re trying to help, either, so get yourself clear and breathe…..first!

 

* If you are feeling any  ‘intensity’ about the subject or person, step back and tap yourself, until you feel grounded, safe and neutral.  Carefully consider if this is a ‘place you can go; if you feel you have traumatic memories  that may be triggered by this tapping, don’t do Surrogate Tapping until you’ve tapped your own feelings, fears and memories out.

 

2. Where Are You Coming From?  (Being Unattached)

 

Do you have any need for this help to come from you?  For any particular outcome or timeframe?

 

* Coming from any other place than Unconditional Love and Compassion is something entirely different than Surrogate Tapping is intended for, and definitely something to avoid. 

 

* Get clear about your intentions and any ‘needs’ you have before doing Surrogate Tapping.

 

Surrogate tapping is about their highest good, not about you.  We allow and offer up the gift of our Intentions and energy in this kind of tapping.  We intend for the recipient to freely use the energy and healing intention as they will.  It is their choice.  We must allow that choice to play out in the way they feel is best for them, in whatever state they are in at that moment.

Keep in mind, too, that results and choices may not be immediate. 

 

4. Don’t Lead to Conclusions

 

Let it flow and let it go.  You are engaging in the Flow, that stream of Consciousness you have allowed yourself to enter.  Don’t pollute that purity with directional thoughts or judgments.  They have no place here.

 

Ask yourself if there is any Agenda, Ego, perception of ‘Rightness’ or specific Outcome in mind.  If so, go tap on that first, until you are sure that none of those ideas are present.

 

5. Stick to What “Is So”; Fixing vs. Acknowledging

 

During Surrogate Tapping, you are engaged in saying what is “so”. 

 

* Recognize that there is a underlying discomfort in leaving things ‘as is’ when we’re anxious. 

 

* Wanting to fix things or leave them in a better state is not only admirably human, but usually comes form a kind-hearted place.  However, Surrogate Tapping is not about “fixing” them.  Make sure your ‘need to fix’ them is not in play.

 

We are acknowledging what “is so”.  I use that phrase to describe EFT tapping :  “Begin by “Saying What Is So,” or,“Say What is True”.   That means we are acknowledging things may not be ‘good’ or feel ‘right’ at present.  Coming from this place of honesty is the only way to proceed.

 

3. Make healthy choices about your own abilities.

 

Maintain an awareness of how very painful this situation or condition may be to all concerned - including yourself.

 

* We are already mindful of the other’s pain, but we don’t want to take the pain into or upon ourselves; we’re offering  them OUR energy and support for healing, not taking on their pain.  Who would that possibly help?

 

* If you are feeling any intensity or dredging up painful memories and such, it’s time to step away and tap yourself, until you are once again feeling grounded, safe and neutral.

 

5. Tune In

 

Begin a peaceful focus on the person or situation.  Picture a place, a space in which to hold this Intention and healing energy you are ready to send.  Remain mindful, noticing what comes to you in this space.  Honor and explore the messages you are given, even if at times you do not understand them.

 

 Again, I can’t stress enough, if you find you are having adverse reactions or triggering your own feelings and memories, step away from the procedure and tap upon yourself for each of these until neutralized.

 

6. Holding the Space and Gratitude

 

After we’ve fully embraced all the things we need to acknowledge and all the feelings, fears, misgivings, emotions and messages that we discover, it’s time to open our Consciousness to what we may not be able to see yet.   This is the time to ‘hold the space’ for whatever needs to happen, and the healing choices and abilities that person has within themselves.

 

         * Even though we may not know the result of our tapping, we acknowledge the space that is held for this healing to take place, in the recipient’s own time and readiness.

 

* There is always a point of Gratitude you can include in this activity, no matter how odd the thought is to you at the time.  Everything has facets and pieces that are unknown to us.  Simply let this realization be a part of your thoughts. 

 

Don’t work for any ‘answer’ or solution. Simply focusing on ‘the highest and best good’ is enough.

Thank you to all who tap each day at noon, for our global brothers and sisters. On top of our list right now: 

Please hold space and tapping energy for those who continue to suffer in Syria, those rebPalestine and Jerusalem, the troubles in West Africa, the nuclear aftermath that continues in Japan, the slow rebuilding in the Phillipines, conflicts and refugee situations across the world.  

There's never a lack of things to tap for! Worldwide conflicts affect us all, and displace millions.  Natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and drought also abound, so keep them in your thoughts as well, please.  

When we practice tapping with our global brothers and sisters, we ARE ONE.  Let's SHIFT, together, with one another on behalf of those who cannot - for whatever reason. Thank you!  You may simply want to tap for their grief, healing, and also for the chance to bring peace to themselves and others.  Here in the states, we continue to ask you to tap with us,  using our recent bombing and shooting tragedies in this country, in support of non-violent solutions and better mental healthcare! In times like these, we offer prayers, surrogate tapping and advocacy, using our power to change what is within our power to change -ourselves and one another.
